Ø3II is my own label, for my work only: a consistent way to present the music, and a reason to build a visual language around it. I release as Loa, an alias borrowed from Gibson's Sprawl novels, where AIs present themselves as voodoo spirits. The sound is ambient, psychedelic, dub-influenced techno. Releasing those tracks with nothing around them felt incomplete.
Ø3II reads as 032, the phone code of Lviv, where I was born and live. It is a direct homage to 313, Detroit's area code and techno's shorthand for its own origin. Writing it as Ø3II keeps the number legible while stopping it from behaving like one: a slashed zero and a Roman two make it read as a mark rather than three digits.
There is no fixed logo. The signature is the string itself, and it holds in any typeface, which is why nothing on the covers depends on a particular drawing of it.
Releases and tracks alike are named after places, real or imagined, literary or personal. Theseus, the ship from Peter Watts's Blindsight. Lantau, an island in Hong Kong. Euxine, the Greek name for the Black Sea. Some I have been to, some I never will. The title sets a scene; the music doesn't have to stay in it.
The covers are generated. I built a browser-based tool for the project that produces geometric compositions on a square canvas: two colors, a near-black ground and a single line color.
It came from decomposing a set of reference graphics into distinct construction logics. Three survived, each a different way of dividing a frame. Grid builds a lattice and places a figure inside each cell. Carve recursively subdivides a rectangle. Field stacks lines and deforms them along a shared waveform.
The covers stay related because the frame never changes: same square, same ground, one line color. The geometry inside is what makes each one distinct. The same tool produces the rest of a release's assets, from social posts to a poster when one is needed.
The system exists to put records out. Releases go up as they are finished, each one titled, each one carrying a cover the tool generated for it.
